Estimating Wealth and Giving Capacity

calculator.jpgDo you use estimated wealth calculations to help you determine a prospects wealth and/or major giving capacity? I am looking at designing a Wealth Estimator feature for ResearchPoint and would like your feedback on how you use wealth estimating in your organization. Who do you share the information with? Do you find it successful in getting a larger gift? What factors and asset types do you use to estimate a prospects wealth or major giving capacity? Do you have a formula that works for all of your prospects, or does it vary from prospect to prospect?

Feel free to post feedback here, or contact me at john.o'connell@blackbaud.com and we can set up a time to talk.

What use does your organization have for mapping?

Do people with your organization currently use any mapping tools for locating consitutents, planning trips or any other purposes? If not, is their a need that could be addressed with mapping tools? I would really like to get some of your input on:

- Who in your organization has needs to use a mapping tool (what is their role and interaction with CRM system)

- What tasks do they need to accomplish (for themselves or for others) with mapping tools

Overall rating for a prospect or group

Do you use your own internal system to rate a constituent as a prospect for your organization. If so, what is your system. One example I have heard was rating as an A1, A2, B1, B2, etc...

Do you also rate groups of constituents, like a household, family or family foundation? If not today, do you envision doing so?

Relationships in Sherlock

I would like to see if you have feedback on relationships in Sherlock. The following screen shots capture what we are proposing to do. The first is the general relationships tab which captures all known individual and organizational relationships. I think of these as first degree relationships in the six degrees of separation concept. These are relationships that someone in the system has added. The second screen shot is the relationship tree which somewhat captures the six degrees of separation idea. All constituents in the relationship tree are constituents in the database. The final screen shot represents extended relationships found by PeopleLink. These people may or may not be constituents in the system.

Known Individual and Organizational Relationships

Relationship Tree

Extended Relationships (Powered by PeopleLink)

The main idea is the if you are viewing the relationship tree or the extended relationships, you can easily add someone as a first degree relationship. The system will try and identify constituents returned from PeopleLink as existing in the system, and these found will be listed in bold.

This relationships area should be available in both stand alone and integrated environments. In V2 of Sherlock we will create a more graphical representation of the six degrees of separation idea, but hopefully this is a good start. Please let me know your thoughts.

Example Profile Reports

Cason had created an example Full Detail Profile Report for Sherlock. In this report basically every piece of wealth information we have on a constituent's record is displayed. If you have never looked at it, here is a link to review it:

http://sharepoint/sites/Products/TRE/Sherlock/Requirements/Increment%201/UseCase4_UI_ProfileReport.doc

I recently created two additional example reports. The first I will refer to as a full summary. It is similar to the full detail in that it lists all of the wealth records we have on a prospect, but it is summarized with just the main points instead of providing all of the detail:

http://sharepoint/sites/Products/TRE/Sherlock/Requirements/Increment%201/UseCase4_UI_ProfileReportFullSummary.doc

The other example report I made I refer to as a thumbnail. It is a one page highlight of the constituent, something perhaps provided during an initial prospect validation before a thorough research has been performed. It is seen here:

Please feel free to check these reports out and let me know what you think. What would you add? What would you take away? The idea is that we want to provide a couple of default templates that they can use right out of the box. However, they will be getting the ability to create/customize their own templates, so these could end up being just examples for them to use as guidelines. Development will be looking to add these templates soon, so please forward any comments so we can fix them up if necessary.
